Terms of Service

Last updated: July 23, 2026 · Effective: July 23, 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Forward Thinkers Foundation (“Flint,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) that governs your use of the Flint mobile app and related services (the “Service”). Flint lets groups pool money into a shared balance, spend it with a group card, split expenses, and send or request money between people. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use Flint.

Flint is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking, card issuing, payment processing, and money transmission are provided by Stripe, Inc. (“Stripe”) and its licensed banking partners. By using Flint you also agree to Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement and applicable Stripe terms, and you authorize us to share information with Stripe as needed to provide the Service.

1. Who can use Flint

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract.
  • You must be a resident of the United States with a U.S. bank account and a U.S. phone number.
  • You may use Flint only for personal, non-commercial purposes — sharing expenses, pooling money with people you know, and paying people back. Business use isn’t supported.
  • You may maintain only one Flint account.

2. Your account

  • Accurate information. You agree to provide true, current information when you sign up and to keep it updated. Signing up with someone else’s identity is prohibited.
  • Account security. You’re responsible for keeping your device and sign-in method secure. Flint signs you in with one-time codes; anyone with access to your phone number, email inbox, or unlocked device may be able to access your account, so protect them. Enable Face ID / Touch ID in the app for extra protection. Tell us immediately at support@payflint.app if you suspect unauthorized access.
  • Your actions. Activity that happens through your account is treated as yours unless you’ve told us it was unauthorized and we’ve been able to confirm it.

3. Identity verification

Because Flint moves money, financial regulations (including Know-Your-Customer and anti-money-laundering rules) require identity verification before you can transact. You agree to provide the requested information — such as your legal name, date of birth, address, a government-issued ID, and government identifiers like the last four digits of your SSN — and you authorize us and our partners (including Stripe) to verify it, including with third-party sources. We may limit, suspend, or close accounts that can’t be verified.

4. Balances & moving money

  • Your balance. Money in your personal balance and in group balances is held with Stripe and its banking partners — not by Flint directly. Balances do not earn interest.
  • Deposits. You can add money from a linked bank account or card. Bank (ACH) transfers can take several business days to settle and can be returned or reversed by your bank after they appear in the app.
  • Sending & requesting. Payments to other Flint users are typically instant and cannot be cancelled once sent. Only send money to people you know and trust. A request for money is just a request — the other person chooses whether to pay it.
  • Withdrawals. You can withdraw your own available balance to your linked bank account. Standard payouts take 1–3 business days; instant payouts (where available) arrive in minutes for a fee (see “Fees”). You can only ever withdraw your own share — never another member’s.
  • No guarantee of availability. Processing times depend on banks, card networks, and Stripe, and money movement may occasionally be delayed, declined, or reversed for reasons outside our control.

5. Groups, splits & the group card

  • Pooled money is shared. When you contribute to a group balance, that money becomes spendable by the group under the group’s settings (for example, through the group card). Flint keeps a ledger of who has paid in and who owes, but Flint is not a party to the arrangements between group members — settling up is between you and the people in your group.
  • Only join groups with people you trust. Members can see your name, avatar, contributions, and position in the group (see the Privacy Policy for details on visibility).
  • Group card. Cards issued for a group are provided through Stripe Issuing and its bank partners, subject to their cardholder terms. Spending controls set in the app (limits, locks, category rules) apply to card use. Cards may only be used to spend the group’s pooled balance for the group’s purposes.
  • Splits. A split is a record and a request — creating one doesn’t move money until people pay their share.
  • Disagreements between members. We may provide tools (records, receipts, activity history) to help groups resolve disagreements, but we don’t arbitrate them and aren’t responsible for money group members owe each other.

6. Fees

  • Creating an account, joining groups, standard bank deposits, and standard withdrawals are free.
  • Instant payouts and card-funded deposits carry a fee, always shown in the app before you confirm.
  • Fees, once charged for a completed service, are non-refundable except where required by law.
  • We may change fees going forward; current fees are always displayed in the app at the time of the transaction.

7. Payment authorizations, errors & reversals

  • ACH authorization. When you link a bank account and initiate a deposit, you authorize us and Stripe to debit that account for the amount you request (and to credit it for withdrawals). You can revoke this authorization by removing the linked account, which won’t affect transfers already in progress.
  • Failed and returned payments. If a deposit is returned or reversed after the funds were credited or spent, you owe us that amount, and we may deduct it from your balance or require repayment.
  • Mistakes. If you believe money moved in error — a wrong amount, a duplicate, a payment you didn’t make — contact us at support@payflint.app as soon as possible and we’ll investigate. We may correct ledger errors (crediting or debiting affected balances) to reflect what actually happened.
  • Payments to the wrong person are on you. If you send money to the wrong recipient, we can ask them to return it, but we can’t force them to.

8. Prohibited uses

You agree not to use Flint to:

  • Break the law — including money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, fraud, or purchasing illegal goods or services.
  • Move money for strangers, or send/receive money on behalf of someone who is not you (no “muling,” no collecting payments for third parties).
  • Run a business, sell goods or services, accept commercial payments, or engage in unlawful gambling.
  • Abuse promotions, create multiple accounts, use another person’s identity, or misrepresent who you are.
  • Harass other users, spam money requests, or use group tools to pressure or deceive people.
  • Interfere with the Service — probing, scraping, reverse engineering, or attempting to bypass security or spending controls.

We may decline, hold, or reverse transactions and may suspend or close accounts involved in prohibited activity.

9. Fraud prevention, holds & freezes

To protect you, other users, and the Service, we monitor for fraud and abuse. We may:

  • Apply review windows or holds to higher-risk actions (for example, a newly changed payout bank or an unusually large withdrawal).
  • Require step-up verification before sensitive actions.
  • Limit, suspend, or freeze accounts or balances while we investigate suspected fraud, prohibited use, or legal requirements — and where the law requires it, we may not be able to tell you why.

Legitimate funds affected by a hold are released once review is complete.

10. Closing your account; termination

  • You can leave anytime. You may close your account in the app. You’ll need to withdraw your balance and settle group positions first; deletion is scheduled with a short window during which you can change your mind, and some records are retained as required by law (see the Privacy Policy).
  • We can terminate too. We may suspend or close your account if you violate these Terms, create risk for us or other users, if required by law or our partners, or if we discontinue the Service. Where practical, we’ll give you a chance to withdraw your remaining verified balance.
  • Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive (including fees owed, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute resolution) survive account closure.

11. Flint’s intellectual property

The Service — including the app, design, logos, and content we create — belongs to Forward Thinkers Foundation and its licensors. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service except as allowed by law.

12. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that money movement will always complete on any particular schedule. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer-protection law that can’t be waived.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law: (a) we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data; (b) we are not liable for the acts or omissions of other users (including group members who owe you money) or of banks, card networks, or other third parties; and (c) our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of $100 or the amount of fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

14. Disputes, arbitration & class-action waiver

  • Talk to us first. Before filing a claim, contact support@payflint.app and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally.
  • Binding arbitration. Except for small-claims-court cases and where prohibited by law, any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court.
  • Class-action waiver. Disputes will be resolved on an individual basis only — not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, consolidated, or representative proceeding.
  • Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@payflint.app with your name and account email within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.
  • Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your state of residence necessarily applies.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Flint after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don’t agree, stop using the Service and close your account.
